A visit of an English class on 3/22, 2002
Today we saw a nice demo of representing activities in English class. We have studied some essays about representing in classroom, such as drama, role-play show. As “group work” which is discussed in many books, we did watch a real example.
It was a kind of mode that the students all need to represent their acquired learning by drama. Besides, they also need to prepare other stage properties to be with them on stage. Though maybe some of them were not made by themselves, I still appreciate their working on this show.
Nowadays, schools and teachers provide many approaches to let students explore and know more. They have a larger perspective on this environment than we had before. It is real diversification.
In this demo show, I seemed to see myself who was in the elementary school before. Most students were shy and felt embarrassed while acting on stage. We could find that some students were active and fond of performing easily. At times, I would be surprised to see their performance. Creativity is really important and we should develop it well as early as possible.
As we observed, there were some students whose English ability was better and had more courage to speak out. Though not every student spoke out, he also cooperated with each other and does his work. Everyone played his proper role. I think it is quite important than anything else. I believe Ms. Ruan felt gratified.
After thinking more, I doubt that if myself can be a so hard-working teacher in the future. Being teachers will take responsibility and have to plan or imagine in advance. We have to suppose what will happen during teaching in real classroom situation. Theoretical is totally different from practical.
Not only students but also teachers need to be trained to have ability. It is fantastic to build up the abilities of teaching. I am really looking forward to this challenge.
Ms. Ruan has been a good teacher already but she still needs people’s external help. Sharing equipment with other people really does well for everyone. By sharing with people, we can know more and it will provoke our ideas easily. For me, I found I understood why I am worried about to be a teacher, for I have no my own views of teaching, which Ms. Yang said at the end of the class.
I believe that everyone was impressed by what Ms. Ruan said on that day. Trying to challenge the ultimate. It is really a great urge to encourage us when we are busy for something.
