Holidays in Taiwan date: 2006/12/24

There are many holidays in Taiwan. Mainly we can categorize the holidays in Taiwan in 3 parts. One is to memorize the great Chinese people, one is for Chinese cultures and customs, and another one is from western country's cultures, which has influenced Taiwan a lot. Some of them are quite important, for instance, Chinese New Year, Tomb Sweeping Day, Christmas, Mid-Autumn Festival, Ghost month, Teachers’ Day and so on.

The first category is about great Chinese people. The great philosopher and educator, Confucius, is Chinese people's forever teacher. His thoughts have affected all the descendants in China for his views were meaningful and worthy. Chinese students have to study hard his thoughts hard.

The Dragon Boat Festival is one of the big holidays in Taiwan. This holiday is for one poet who named Qu Yuan. He had was the victim of a witch hunt before his dead death. In order to remember him, people make rice dumplings and have row dragon boats. It is quite a special holiday here.

The second category is about Chinese cultures and customs. In July in the lunar calendar, we had have ghost month. People believe that in ghost month, there are many ghosts wandering on the road streets. The ghosts are very hungry so people prepare many foods to worship them. During the this month, seniorsity always forbids their children to play in water because that then always a happens tragedy happens.

On Mid- Autumn Festival, people enjoy the big, round, and beautiful moon with their family. In this one decade, BBQ barbecue is another choice for dinner on this day.

The last category is from western cultures, such as Christmas, Halloween, Valentines' Day, Easter, etc. Those Holidays are the most popular ones among the young people. Having those holidays teaches us the cultures from UK, US or other countries. Their exotic strange/ nice customs attract all people in the world.

Holidays in Taiwan are so many There are so many holidays/ Taiwan has many holidays, but all of them have their stories behind them. (If we want to know them well, there is homework for us to discover.) If we want to understand them well, there is lots of for us to discover.
